The existing mill head had developed minor cracks, and the prompt delivery of a replacement was needed. Weighing in at 19 tonnes with a diameter of 4.64 metres, the size and urgency of the booking meant that DSV Projects Australia, in partnership with DSV Air Charters in Denmark, had to arrange for an Antonov AN124 aircraft to fly the mill head to its destination.
Overall it took 11 days from project initiation to cargo delivery. By sending in the replacement mill head directly from Perth in such a short amount of time, the mining company was able to continue production without interruption.
It certainly was a fantastic day on a number of levels and I am still amazed at how smooth it went from the loading to the final lashing down on the Antonov... thank you once again for steering the DSV ship and making it such a smooth and faultless service. Looking forward to the next one
